GTA Online: 4 Cool things I did in the game this weekend | canada ...

After a horribly glitchy and unplayable first week or so, it seems GTA Online is finally working (at least for most people).

The game is still experiencing issues, though, and some gamers have been reporting their money and characters are still disappearing. Apparently it has something to do with getting a “could not connect to Rockstar’s cloud server” error and then repeatedly trying to connect again.

On my end, I haven’t run into any difficulties since Rockstar’s latest update to the game, apart from a few issues connecting to friend’s games. In the multiple hours I’ve spent in GTA Online, some cool stuff has happened. Since my capture card is almost always running, I was able to grab footage of a few epic incidents. Below is a collection of fun jobs (the term GTA Online uses for activities) and events that unfolded organically, in GTA Online’s open world.

1. Stealing a jet from a military base

Figuring this out was quite a task for a small group of friends and me. At first, we made the collective decision to try to find a way into the base on our own, without the help of the internet, but after a few hours of experimentation, we caved and looked up part of a guide online.

Driving right into the base resulted in getting shot to pieces, regardless of what vehicle we selected. Landing a helicopter usually meant a tank would explode the aircraft before it even hit the surface of the military base’s landing strip. Even parking a vehicle beside the base’s large fence in order to climb over it, also didn’t work. You instantly get a four star wanted rating and usually get shot to pieces in only a matter of seconds.

Flying a Jet in GTA Online makes you invincible as long as you don’t crash it. Unfortunately I became the lucky recipient of a rival  pilot’s missile towards the end of my leisurely flight.

Check out the video above to see how we actually managed to get our hands on a jet.

2. Epic GTA Online police chase

The plan was to simply get a van and roll around the town busting virtual caps in other players. Unfortunately, our murderous plans were quickly squashed by GTA Online’s aggressive police force. I also blame the person driving our car as he’s quite obviously a horrible driver.

Somehow, out of the two friends I was playing with, I managed to survive (mostly because I was lucky), and an epic police chase went down soon after. Surprisingly, I actually manage to stay alive. The video above shows all the action.

3.  Skydiving is awesome

Apart from the short skydiving segments in GTA V’s single player campaign, this is my first taste of diving and gliding through Los Santos’ skies. Skydiving is an activity included as one of GTA Online’s many jobs.

While relatively uneventful, floating through the sky is a nice break from the violence streets of downtown Los Santos and shows off how impressive Grand Theft Auto V can be at times.

4. Is this GTA Online or a really good-looking Wave Race 64?

The Wave Race franchise is one of my favourite racing series of all time. GTA Online includes surprisingly realistic water physics and a variety of aquatic vehicles. It makes perfect sense that the game would feature jet ski racing.

A group of friends and I bounded over the waves, bumping into one another and flying over jumps. Just like Skydiving, Jet Ski races show off a different, less violent side to GTA Online’s Los Santos. It’s a nice change of pace from the usually hyper-violent nature of the game.

This is only a small selection of the many structured and organic activities players can mess around with in GTA Online. I’ve still yet to play golf, tennis or do many of the game’s hundreds of missions. Soon, Rockstar is also launching the ability to pull of large scale heists at some point in the near future as well. What GTA Online escapades have you gotten into now that the game is actually working?
